Easy LOVE Banner

Are you ready for the day of Love?  Valentines?  It will be here in 10 days!  There is still time to whip up a little love for your home.
For my farm house mantel, I kept many of my Christmas items (candles and glass jars with red balls).  I pulled other things from around the house: a couple of red books I purchased from Goodwill and the little red pitcher that I believe I picked up at Dollar General a few years ago.  Plus my clearance find heart ornament from Target that I picked up for 10 cents!  I wanted a little bit more.

Then I whipped out my old scrapbook supplies and paper lunch bags to make my little love banner.
I cut the bottom off each bag.  The cut them in half length wise.  The little red hearts were hand cut from a nice piece of thick cardstock.
I inked the edges of the hearts and stamped the other letters on with foam stamps.  A bit of twine, a little hot glue and it's complete.  I might have made more than one.
I LOVE it!  Seriously.  Plus it was so very simple.  Like I have always said, it doesn't have to cost a pretty penny to be beautiful.
Do you decorate for Valentines?
I don't go all out, in fact, the above is it.  Besides, I think I can leave this up somewhere in the house after I take it off the mantel.

Got Gifts? Idea #4

Here is a very simple inexpensive gift idea for any candy lover on your list!
Using recycled Starbucks Coffee Frappuccino bottles.

Total cost is a little over $1 each.
The cost of 4 bags of M and M's (mine were on sale for $2 per bag).
I started by raiding my scrapbook paper stash.

You could very easily use leftover pieces of wrapping paper.
Just cut some strips about 2.5" to wrap the bottle.

Sorry for the glare on this photo!
I used a double sided tape runner
to adhere the paper.

The lids were spray painted red.
Add a bit of ribbon, also from my stash.
Then a Merry Christmas sticker.

I work at a University and will be giving these to my student workers at the office, along with a Christmas card.
You could fill these with Skittles, hot chocolate mix, spices, etc.
What?! You have TOO many neat crafty ideas
for Christmas and not enough time?
Well make a note of this for Valentines!

I am working on another recycled jar gift and hope to post it later today!
I've also been putting the finishing touches on decorating around here.

Don't forget to check back.  I'm almost at my 100th post!

Quick~n~Easy Craft Project

Just a little something to share.

Take these very inexpensive wooden pieces ($1.00 at the Dollar Tree).

A little quiet time in the studio tonight.

Mix a bit of paint, scrapbook paper, ribbon, vintage lace, chipboard letters, flower, button, some sandpaper and glue.

Whip together a keepsake for a baby shower tomorrow.

The shower invitation had an enclosure card that said they are planning a surprise keepsake box for the new Mommy and to please bring a Do Not Disturb sign to include in the box. Something to remind her that she needs to take time for herself. What a neat little idea! She is having a girl, so I thought pink and green would be cute. I did take off the little white string that came with the boards and added my own pink ribbon as the 'hanger'.

My daughter and I will also be giving her something from her registry at Target. Plus I have another almost completed extra homemade item to tuck in with it. Hopefully I can snap a photo of it before the shower tomorrow and share it too!

I think I NEED one of these little jewels to hang on the outside of my studio door? What about you???

Happy Valentine's Day! Heart candy box craft ~

Hope you are enjoying the day! Here is a little project that will use those candy boxes you might recieve today! It took me less than one hour and cost $2.37 for the scrapbook paper and die cut. The rest I had on hand.

I painted the red plastic with Folk Art "Spring Rose" to tone down the red. I traced the heart on scrapbook paper, cut out, inked the edges with Ranger Distress Ink (Vintage photo) and applied with a Double Stick Adhesive Duck tape roller. I also cut a long strip of different scrapbook paper, inked and applied (the lighter pink print). Then I cut some of the old 'lace' I found at the antique mall last weekend, using Aleene's Clear Gel tacky glue to hold it in place, because it dries clear. Added some felt ribbon off gift wrapping I received at Christmas. Painted a Heidi Swapp heart and glue on. Then added the 'Flirty Lil Girl Die Cut' bird.
Because of the paint, I won't be using food in my heart. I think it would be pretty in my bedroom or on any side table as decorations next Valentines.
I am OFF to Scott's Antique Mall this morning for a day of old stuff hunting! Enjoy your Valentine and remember to tell those that mean the most ~ you love them!

I am in a funk and got a funk...

Yesterday morning I began sneezing constantly. How many times can I sneeze in a row? Try anywhere from six to a dozen. Catching a breath in between is difficult! I was on a sneezing frenzy! Not to mention amusing to co-workers.

I had a Dentist appointment yesterday afternoon. It was a scheduled appointment to fill a cavity. However, for a little over a week now my gums have been very sensitive and bleeding a lot. This occasionally happens when I brush due to crowns on two different teeth. But this crap was happening just out of the blue (or should I say red? ewwwwwwwwww).

Well it seems there is a reason for it. The Dentist looked in my mouth and said..."What are you so stressed out about?". Who me? I try to keep a positive outlook! But even I have noticed that I've been 'out of sorts' since the holidays. Maybe it was all the rush of hosting Thanksgiving, making Christmas gifts, baking and then taking a week long vacation to Illinois over my Holiday break from the U. Then coming back into work romping up a new semester with the work load being pretty break neck for the first couple of weeks in January. Add in keeping up with a teenage daughter who is constantly on the go, or having friends over to the house. Laundry, groceries, bills, car issues, work issues.... Ahhh I'm beginning to get the picture! My body is on overload. Mr Dentist also says, get you a good multi vitamin. Due to the fact that my gums have been bleeding much, like constantly almost for over a week...I have a lovely little infection that requires meds. I put off going to the Dentist about it because I knew I was going to the Dentist. Bright of me eh?

The nurse at the Dentist office deposited me back to the front counter lady to make another appointment at a later date for the filling, telling the receptionist that I wasn't getting my teeth done today because, "She's got a funk going on in her mouth". Exactly! Thankfully we all had a good laugh at my expense. Interrupted by continued sneezing. Here is your prescription, buy a special toothpaste, here's your dummy...I mean reminder card for your next appointment; your gums should feel better in about 48 hours.

So I pick up my drugs, legal of course. Then head off to Target to get a new brand of toothpaste and a truckload of kleenex ...actually I prefer Puffs with lotion.

I wake up today... ALL dizzy. I said DIZZY as in the room is spinning, not ditzy. Although a few might even consider me that too at times! Still feeling pretty crummy, so I did something I haven't done in a while. I called in sick to work. I have an 'excuse slip' from yesterday's dentist appointment about my 'funk'. I had them write on there that it was caused due to stress. Now I've never heard of such in my life. But then, I've had pretty healthy teeth with the occasional filling and a couple of crowns. That is it!

I've noticed not having the same energy as usual. I just chalked it up to holiday rush, work load, life and a bit of winter blues. Maybe my body is trying to tell me to rest up and be a little more loving of myself.

One of the huge things that relieves stress for me is working in my studio. I altered a mini purse 2 year calendar today to add to my One World One Heart goodie box. Here it is:

There is still time to sign up for the drawing! Go to my post with the One World One Heart logo (2 days ago) and leave a comment on THAT post.

Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much. A lesson for myself today. Love yourself Much!

Another tidbit today that spoke loudly to me, I ran across while blog hopping around all of the great blogs on the One World One Heart giveaway; then crossing over through a blog to a blog to a blog. Needless to say I don't remember where I read it. But it is something I wanted to share and a reminder to my stressed out self.

You do enough.
You are enough.
You are loved.
Just as you are.

Lemonade anyone?

Ya know the saying right? When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! This past week has been a bushel FULL of lemons. Thank you very much! I know there is a lesson in there somewhere. No I didn't really make lemonade...but I DID make something ...read on.

Thursday, January 29th was my first born's 22nd birthday and the first time I didn't see him ON his birthday. He is grown, working tons (a police officer) and us getting together wasn't in the cards. I am so very proud of the young man he has become. Responsible and giving of himself to serve others. Yes, I 'worry' often. I know he is doing what he loves and I have to trust in his fellow officers and the training he has had for his job. I notice that I rarely watch the news anymore. I catch my weather during Good Morning America.

This day of my son's birth, resulted in the IT guy working on my computer for 6 out of my 8 hours at the office. After all that time, he finally figured out that two different anti-viruses were 'battling' each other and making my programs open at a snails pace.

Thursday was also another car 'incident' on the home front. My darling daughter asked to borrow my car to go to town to meet friends. She drives her brothers old hand-me-down S-10 (we lovingly call the POS-10) to school. She called me in tears not 15 minutes after leaving. First thought, wreck. Nope she had blown BOTH tires on the passenger side. Obviously she ran off the road or hit something; but has no recollection of it. Uh huh! So I jumped into a pair of jeans and drove the POS-10 to her; spent 2 hours at Walmart getting two NEW tires. The others were not repairable. FUN night right? Yeah, that's what I was saying too! Thankfully she was OK; my bank account, notsomuch. Add that to my 'why I didn't keep the blogging up' list too, would ya?

Friday was a HAPPY mail day when a blog 'prize' from Casii arrived. It was even wrapped oh so CUTE! Of course I just had to make a photo of it. THANKS again Casii! With the week from Hell-o ... this was a smiling moment.

Saturday had me dealing with some teenager struggles of knowing my 17 year old daughter is fast becoming her own young woman self; yet searching for the line of allowing that independence and still being the mom. Needless to say this resulted in conversations with my daughter, conversations with her father and just a whole lot of high emotions over the last two days. So what did I do? Tackled cleaning out the closet in my 'new' studio (my daughter's old room). Three bags of garbage, 6 bags of clothes to give or donate, 5 loads of laundry, a dozen purses discovered, one pair of roller blades, 2 belts tossed and one clean closet! Whew!

Today was declared MY 'fun' day. I was up early and headed off to Old Time Pottery hoping to find some large pillows for the now day bed in the studio. No such luck. But I did find a CUTE 'quilt' (cause it is thin and not like my granny made) to go on the bed in matching colors of the room. And for $15 on sale, I likee much better! Finally I found ONE matching pillow at Garden Ridge for $10. I have hung my bulletin boards today over my computer desk. Hung a shelf and an inventive ribbon holder that I will have to post photos of later. My room is now my 'escape'; happy place, sanctuary. Thank goodness, after a week like this!

I also got in a bit of 'craft' time and whipped out a few cards for the 2peas 'A Year in Cards' Class. It's FREE! With instructions, inspiration and a tutorial. So if you are interested check it out over at http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/ . My fave is the black and green one.
And off to a new week we go! This one is going to be BETTER!
