Step away from the trigger spray paint can.
I'm hooked!
Finally a beautiful sunny day on the weekend to indulge myself in a bit of spray paint folly. A few weeks ago I decided my living room needed NOT to be so matchy matchy with all the same color wood. A desire rose up to paint my coffee table BLACK. Then there was this tiny little voice that squeaked inside my head saying, "What if you mess it up?", "You've never done a large item". But I had my new spray trigger and my fingers were itching to point the gun!
So I found an old sheet, grabbed the gun trigger, some sandpaper and my can of Rust-Oleum Canyon Black paint.
Put a chicken pot pie in the oven.
And I sanded.
I locked and loaded my can. (Can you tell I have a police officer son?)
Took a few minutes to get used to the gun and technique.
Oh what's that? Major delivery of my 'new to me' Maytag Washer and Dryer.
I am so grateful for a friend that helped install these plus worked on my drain. I am now washing HUGE loads of laundry with no water running into my floor! YEAH! However, the process took more time than I anticipated due to several road blocks with the repairs. I was able to finish up my spray paint job right before dust. I brought the table in and waited impatiently for it to completely dry.
Remember this from last weeks vignette post?
BEFORE
Here she is AFTER today's new paint job
She looks expensive and sleek now!
I think she even makes my old hand-me-down sofa look better.
I LOVE it! Not sure if I should sand her edges. What do you think? Yes to sanded edges or leave her be?

Great job!! I did the same thing to my coffe table in my family room, I like it much better.

I think it looks fabulous! If your family is any thing like mine, they will "distress" it all on their own--no sanding needed :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous table. I love it just the way it is. Very pretty. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love it as is. And welcome to trigger-happy land. We're all very nice.
ReplyDeleteSherri you did an awesome job! It looks so classy with the new paint job.

Looks MUCH better painted! I like it! As far as sanding, I think it's just a personal preference. Would look nice either way.

Have a wonderful day
Just beautiful.

Oh Sherri! That looks so much better!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh the power of black spray paint!!
I am a sander/distresser by nature...so that is what I do. Try it, and if you don't like it, you can aways use your trigger spray again!!
Have a great week!
Wonderful job! It looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI like it the way it is...goood job painting it
ReplyDeleteIt does give a face lift to the whole room!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Glad to hear you're hooked. You should post your furniture makeover to the Furniture Feature Friday link party over at my blog this week. There's a giveaway for my favorite! (Shameful plug, I know.) And congrats on the "new" washer and drer. That always makes a daily task more enjoyable. I just became a follower...
ReplyDeleteI like it! I think I'd leave it as it is. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi! OH, how beautiful your table turned out! It does look expensive. I wouldn't sand the edges! Live with it for a while before you do that.
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud for you getting those nice laundry appliances!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for commenting on the chandelier lowering post on my blog. Just yesterday I started my very first spray painting makeover - funnily enough on another chandelier! I'll be posting it on the blog soon.

ReplyDeleteI'd say to let your family "distress" it. Otherwise let it ride as-is for a while. Not your last spray painting job I'd bet.
ReplyDeleteWay to go girl! Looks fab!
ReplyDeleteisn't it amazing how a can of spray paint can make something so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat look so good. I love to spray paint things black. I went through a phase last year where nothing was safe.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so much better ! I need to get me one of those triggers.
ReplyDeletehmm, i vote unsanded. but i bet it would look awesome either way! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a terrific job!! congratulations!! Love you header picture too~ love it!!

I say distress her edges a bit - but my theory is that it's going to get distressed, anyway, may as well make it intentional!
ReplyDeleteLove it black - it's gorgeous. Nice job!
How wonderful! I think it looks much better now! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the matchy, matchy. Looks like the table came out great.
ReplyDeleteI know I already commented, but it looks great! Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I am getting ready to do the same to some of my tables, but can't decide on white or black - you're right, black looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm about to spray paint something tomorrow, so this is a real inspiration to me! I'm a little worried about how it will go, but I'm loving seeing how well everyone else has done. I might have to attack more than one thing tomorrow, after all! Great job.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have to say that I like it nice and smooth without sanded edges. It looks so elegant in the darker color.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation! Great job!
ReplyDelete:)
Thanks for adding your inspiration to the Show & Tell! I love it!

Beautiful change! I stumbled on your blog looking for pictures of spray-painted furniture. I am contemplating spray-painting a desk for our living room. What kind of spray paint did you use? Did you finish it off with any kind of sealant? I'm worried for a desk that the paint will feel tacky. Does yours?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sherri.
ReplyDeleteYour table turned out beautifully! I love how you have decorated it too. :o)
