My Week in Photos {InstaFriday}

Each Friday I share my InstaGram iPhone photos.  Here's a peek into what's going on down on the Farm:
Have you ever seen a tiny Quail egg?  Me either until we picked up 100 of them this past Saturday.  We have them in the incubator and should have itty bitty bitties in about 21 or so days.  When we drove up to the seller's farm, we were greeted by a beautiful blue
peacock.  Made us miss when we had them on the farm.  He followed us around like a puppy.
I'm hooked on this.  It totally qualifies for dinner right?
Gray beard and snow ball in bloom.  We are still enjoying beautiful warm weather!
Sometimes you just gotta have fast food.  My 'picnic' lunch in my car this week at work.
DQ in case you are wondering and I skipped ice cream. :(
Amazing sunset, breakfast for dinner, sipping coffee on the porch.  Priceless.
Sometimes I sneak into a retail store to see current trends to look for while thrift shopping.  These caught my eye and I am really wanting one.  BAD.
Our country church had their egg hunt Wednesday evening because next week is spring break for the area schools.  Bear enjoyed it and found a bucket full!
Painted toes, thrifted sandals, 80 degrees this week.  I think we skipped Spring all together and are moving right into summer.
For those that have followed my photos of the first turkey we raised (we now have 3 more chicks that are a week old).  Here he is via InstaGram in mid-January.
He is really growing!  We call him 'Little Tom', even though I am not sure yet if he is a Tom or a Hen.  Ha!  I snapped this one with my regular camera, but I just had to share.  Not sure if I will get the opportunity to snap him with my phone.
He now lives in the barn with the chickens.
My user name on InstaGram is Sherri9, if you would like to follow along in the adventure.
Hope you have enjoyed this week in review via photos!  I love spring with it's babies and blooms.  Any one want baby quails in a few weeks???  I'm still not sure what the Farmer plans to do with 100 of them!

New Facebook Timeline for Fan Pages

Yeah, I know the Facebook Timeline release is old news.  But did you know that all Fan pages are moving to the Timeline format on March 30, 2012?  That's Friday folks!  Since I was home with a "not really sick but threw up once at the daycare" Bear last week, I decided to update my fan page.  Here is my new look:
I kept mine simple, using a photo of my favorite flowers and my blog button.  There are a few rules that state you cannot have your link or a call to action (simplified means you can't ask someone to join, like, sign up, etc) in your cover photo.  Just in case you are interested in more information, here are links to a couple of great articles regarding the new Timeline's for Fan Pages.  They cover the new information and some of the ''rules" :
 - 7 new Facebook Changes
 - 15 Must know Tips to ROCK your Timeline
Being a blogger since 2005, plus a huge fan of message boards for years prior, I really enjoy the conversations that the fan page allows.  If you met me in person, I can talk the ears off a billy goat or to a fence post.  Take your pick!  I would LOVE to chat with you there.
Have you switched to the new Timeline yet?

Supper? or Dinner? Menu Plan

Do you call your last meal of the day Supper or Dinner?

We usually say supper.  Maybe it's a Southern thang? Here is what we are having for supper this week:
Sunday - Sandwiches and fresh fruit  (We had a big family lunch)
Monday -  Meatballs over Mashed Potatoes with Gravy and steamed broccoli
Tuesday -  Breakfast; biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon with fresh cantaloupe and homemade jelly
Wednesday - Church Egg Hunt  (they will serve hot dogs with the fixings)
Thursday - Pasta Salad
Friday - Ham Panini Sandwiches with yogurt fruit salad

Photos of a Farm Life - InstaFriday

We have been enjoying late Spring type weather and temps this week in Georgia.  The downfall is our pollen count is through the roof! Over 9000 on Tuesday. Seriously?!  My car is red with a lemon yellow glaze over it.  I feel as if I am breathing in pollen and blowing it out like a smoker's cloud.
A beautiful week for our University's Spring Break.  I'm sure our students enjoyed it!  However, the rest of us were stuck inside working.
Saturday my gorgeous 20 year old daughter attended a friend's party.  She asked me to snap her photo beforehand.  This is 'dressed up' for her.  She usually sports a t-shirt with jeans or shorts.   Sunday me and the Farmer were treated to a rare afternoon of 'free' time.  Which doesn't happen very often with a 4 year old.  First we had lunch....
Then we headed over to pick up some garden supplies and a few herb plants.  I am going to try my hand at a small herb garden.
Then we did what everyone else does round here on pretty Sunday afternoons (that is if they ain't nappin')...
drove slow around country roads.  Me singing loudly to the radio until I yelled STOP...I want a picture of
moo cows.
After our free time we hauled the youngen down to the spillway for some fun of his own.  Wading, moving logs and tossing rocks in the water.
He was so muddy at the end of the day; he had to strip down to his undies on the back porch before heading straight for a bath.
That's what little boys do.
My small city still has a downtown square, with sidewalk cafe's, a coffee shop and quaint bookstore.
The plus about all this warm weather in March is I am already wearing these...
New comfy sandals from Target.  I even painted my toes.  To see the rest of my thrifty outfits, check out THIS POST.
Welcoming Spring to Georgia, with heat and through the roof pollen counts.
One of the thrift outfits I wore to work this week.
If I'm gonna hit a traffic jam...
Well it better be a tractor man.
It's a boy! or maybe it's a girl!  We don't know yet.
The newest addition to the farm.  Another baby turkey hatched last night.  We are waiting on hopefully 2 others to make their debut.  There you have a small peek into my life;  from our little college town to country roads, and right on down to our thrifty simple farm.

Guest Post: Thrift store treasure: buttons!

I am thrilled to share a guest post with you from one of my March Sponsors!  Grab a glass of sweet tea and enjoy:
I’m Laurie Jackson, a March sponsor and happy to be guest blogging today on Design to Shine!  If you’ve ever stopped by to visit my blog, Indulge Your Shelf, you’ll know that I love to shop at stores like Goodwill just as much as Sherri does!  To me, it’s a treasure hunt, and my idea of treasure is antique china, vintage kitsch, old linens, lace, trim…and buttons.
The photo above is part of my button haul the other day.  I was at an ARC charity store and found all those buttons in a plastic bag, hidden amongst the balls of yarn, bags of ribbon, and sewing patterns.  The bag was $1.99.
I use buttons all the time as embellishments in my sewing projects, and in my paper art.  But I also collect them, and these glass buttons in different shapes and colors are a lovely addition to my collection!
To me, buttons are tiny works of art, and the vintage and antique ones evoke history and the romance of a bygone era.
If you feel the same way about buttons, please join us on Button Floozies, another blog of mine that is actually a button community.  There are more than 70 people who write and share photos of their buttons, button projects, and button-related information on the blog.  Right now, we are taking sign ups for a swap to create a button-decorated fabric needlebook.  Also, a British author who wrote a button book is giving away three copies of her book in honor of National Button Week!  There’s always something button-y going on at Button Floozies!
Many of the buttons above are made from shell; mother-of-pearl buttons are among my very favorite to collect and I especially love the carved and/or specially shaped ones, like the stars in the lower left corner.  Shell is among the oldest material for button-making, and do you know that by studying antique buttons, scientists can learn about ancient ocean temperature and depths.
The stars and shapes above are made from an early plastic that is today prized by collectors: Bakelite.  The little red key was another hidden treasure; probably part of an old brooch, it will find its way to being repurposed into a piece of my jewelry!
Of course, in practically every thrift store button tin or bag you will find something other than buttons…
such as these beads and baubles; the red and brown button-like objects above are classified as “trim”: think sequins, but with two holes.
At the same store on the same day, I found the above box of sorted buttons.  It was priced at $4.99.  There were enough buttons in there for all your craft projects – plus plenty to share!
And some of them are quite charming!
This box held a real treasure:
a studio “watch crystal” button, with a sweing theme.  These buttons are collectible and this one is worth every bit (and more) of the $5 I paid for the whole box!
If you share my love of buttons, crafting, and thrift store treasure-hunting, come on by one of my blogs!  Any friend of Sherri’s is a friend of mine!

Awww THANKS Laurie for being such a wonderful blog friend and for being one of my very first sponsors.   YOU are a 'real treasure'!

Thrifty Fashion Finds 3.17.12

Hello, my name is Sherri and I am a thrift-aholic shopper.  Now you know.  Or maybe you have figured that out before my confession.  There is more...are you sitting down?  I haven't been to a retail mall in almost 2 years!  My last purchase in a mall was Victoria's Secret.  Because I do have certain standards.  Which means ladies, that my under garments must be new.
I thought I would start sharing my thrift finds each week.   This will allow me to keep up with my addiction and hopefully will hold me accountable to donate other items from my closet.   Here is this week's thrift haul:
Black Land's End short sleeve top, Goodwill - $0.99 (color of the week, half off)
Fuschia short sleeve blouse, Goodwill - $1.99 (another color of the week)
Striped sleeveless top by Nine and Company, Goodwill - $3.99
Light blue Banana Republic blouse, consignment boutique - $5.59
Navy pleated skirt, Salvation Army - $0.99 (color of the week)
Beaded choker, Salvation Army - $0.99
Earrings, consignment boutique - $2.79
Lee Jeans for Bear, Salvation Army - $1.99
My total, minus Bear's jeans - $17.33
To give you insight into my addiction:  I made two lunch hour runs, one day to Goodwill and the other to Salvation Army.  Today, Bear and I visited with his Granny (my Mom) a her Beauty Shop, afterwards we dropped in two consignment shops.  Then on our way home stopped in our local Goodwill and Salvation Army.  This week is probably a record number of visits even for me!  For the record, I did not find anything in one of the consignment stores, nor in my local Goodwill today.  The first 3 tops were purchased earlier in the week at a lunchtime Goodwill drop in.  The pleated skirt from the Salvation Army lunch visit.  I did find the Banana Republic blouse and earrings today in the 2nd consignment boutique.  Cutest secondhand store ever!  The owner once worked for Abercrombie.  It shows in her store and displays, hence the 'boutique' status.  Today's Salvation Army find's were jeans for Bear and the adorable beaded choker for me.  To see my find's in action, check out my new thrifty fashion post
